Backpacking

Backwoods navigation can be fun.

The Carson National Forest has several wilderness areas. Backpacking here can take you into the Cruces Basin, Latir Peak, Pecos and Wheeler Peak Wildernesses. In addition, there are hundreds of miles of trails in the non-wilderness areas. Trail maps are available from the Forest Service (505-758-6200) and topos can be purchased at local book shops as well as sources in most large metropolitan areas.
